Carter's Debacle

So I was all prepared for the audition. Got Madison together, and left early, in case of traffic and parking. Had a bit of traffic, and found parking no problem. And then we went in. As soon as we went in I knew we should leave. There were a lot of kids, in a lot of age groups. I got the paperwork, and noticed that we were #201, and they were currently on #157. Okay, maybe an hour...NOT!

Apparently, when you got called back they would change the kids into the Carters/Osh Kosh clothes, then take pictures. That's really smart. We ended up waiting 3 hours to get called. By then Madi was exhausted, because it was late (5:15 p.m.). They called her, and I think they had realized not to put kids in the clothes. Madi stood on the marker, but wanted nothing to do with it. She stuck her tongue out, didn't smile, didn't care. Neither did I.

They were casting 75 kids total for the next day! Seriously, next day. Obviously, we didn't get it, and I was just fine with that. On the way out I witnessed a mom chewing out her daughters, for not getting the job. Really? I mean come on. It's just a campaign.

Easter is in the air

Seriously. We just got an audition call for Carter's/Osh Kosh for their Easter print advertising for Monday, December 1st. Can you believe it? I mean we're months away, and I'm just pulling out the warm clothes for Madi, and now we're talking spring?! That same day Madi has her 1 year shots :-P Oh dear.

Not to mention, I saw that babyGap will be casting for their summer print in late December/early January. Can we just get through the holidays first?

A Month Later

I guess auditions are far and few between for the under 1 category. We kept receiving notices that there are auditions upcoming for Old Navy and Church of Scientology. I contacted Madi's agent and asked her what we're supposed to do with these, because in order to submit her, I'd have to shell out between $0.99 and $2.00. Agent said that she submits us regularly, but nothing has come up.

So I just stopped thinking about it, because A) Both auditions were looking for different ages. Old Navy wanted 4-9 months or 18-24 months, and the Church was looking for kids over 1. No big deal.

This morning at around 9:30 a.m. I decided to check my phone. Low and behold there's a call from Madi's agent. She called last night to let us know that Madi is up for the Old Navy ad. Audition is Friday at 10:50 a.m. Um, that's TODAY, in about an hour. So I threw together the diaper bag, dawned some clothes on me, and threw on an outfit on the BOOM. And off we went. Drove down to Los Angeles, found parking, and thank God, the casting call was not as crazy as the babyGap one was. Though the casting agent was the same. We signed in and relaxed.

We saw the girl that was in line after us at babyGap, and lots of new faces. Tons of babies, lots of super cute tots. My favorite mom was SPECTACULAR. She had a curly weave, with a little bow holding her hair back. She was at least 6 feet tall, and she wore spandangly jewelry and sparkly shoes. Who knows, maybe she was trying out!

Of course Madison decided to throw up all over the floor right before we got called in. I didn't change her (no time) but cleaned her up nicely. She looked cute in her "African-safari" outfit. We went into room 3 to get Madi on tape. She sat on a little stage, and followed the directions of the casting lady. Once we were done, the casting lady asked us to go around the corner and meet the casting director, Chelsea Ryan. OMG! Really?! Okay! Chelsea came out and got down to Madi's level and Madi gave her a big grin showing off her 6 teeth. That was it.

Another audition notch in our belt.

I may have figured it out!

I may have figured out what happened last Friday! babyGap is running a contest! People must have thought what the Friday casting call was for!

Cattle Call

Since Thursday, Madi has been waking up with a fever. 103.9 and 104.5 respectively. We were down to the wire on Friday whether I should take her to the audition. After a long nap, Madi was ready, and mommy was a mess. I threw together her diaper bag, got her dressed, and myself and jumped in the car. It took me an hour just to get to Siren Studios.

We turned onto Sycamore Ave to see a flood of parents and kids heading into the parking lot of the studio. However, I still needed to find parking. I drove up Sycamore. Nothing. I drove down another street. Nothing. I turned back onto Sycamore, and after praying to everyone up there, I found a spot right in front of the studio! Amen! I grabbed Madi, already late for our 12:45 call time, and made a mad dash to the end of the line. All sorts of folks were lined up. Little girls, little boys, toddlers and babies alike. Some were really gorgeous! Some, not so much.

We ended up in line sandwiched by two moms and their daughters. The one in front of me is a "professional" baby. She's done Babystyle, Old Navy and Target from what I gathered from her mother. Her mom was very irritating to say the least. She kept on talking about how "All these people want to see their kids in lights," and how her daughter's picture won't be in this year's Halloween issue for Target, because a more ethinic kid, but less photogenic kid got picked to meet a quota. All I wanted to do was bitch slap her.

We stood in line to check in for an hour. Unbelievable. I called Mad's agent to see if she can gague what's going on. But in reality, no one really knew, and we'll probably never know. But I decided to stick it out, just to make it through this worst case scenario. We finally checked in, and the people at the table were less than friendly. I got a form, and Mad's picture stapled to it, just to find a seat and entertain her for another hour. We recived number 153, and they were only on number 40 when we walked into the room of people hearded into fold out chairs.

First thing I did was head to the back of the room, sat down and whipped out a bewbie. Let's reward this kid for being good for the last hour. She sucked, nibbled, whatever, but she was good for a bit longer. I started chatting with other parents. Some were very sweet and nice. Other's could eat you alive with their looks. They would measure you up and down with a fierce stare, and then they'd do the same to your kid. Geez. And here I just thought I'd be nice and be social. I met people from Riverside, Orange County and all over So Cal. A lot of people were first timers. I met a lady with a 9 pound 8 month old! She was premature by oh, 17 weeks or so!

Madi played with a girl named Lily, and they grooved to Bringing Sexy Back. What a site. I was approached and chatted up by a dad with a 5 o'clock shadow, 3 days old. He was a stage father/photographer and probably also a waiter. It started to get late, and people miffed began leaving. Some proclaimed that it was unethical to keep children this long.

I made my way to where they were calling numbers. As I approached they called numbers 155-170. Um, hello. What happened to 153? So I went in, and got moved from photographer to photographer. The one that finally took us was lovely. Poor Madi was at the end of her rope. But I stood her up on the tape, and she saw the camera...all smiles. I swear the child belongs in front of the camera. She hams it up for anyone that takes her picture. The photographer kept saying how beautiful Madi is. I just said "Thanks."

Once we were done, I thanked everyone, scooped up the Madi BOOM, and headed home. So, that's where we stand today. We'll see if Mad gets a call-back on September 23rd. Depends what they're looking for.

What I learned...bring lots of snacks and drinks, an iPod and tons of toys to entertain Madi! Having a folder and my own pen helps. Also, next time, I'm bringing my camera! Oh what a sight to see!

Oh, Madi is now on penicillin. She's has an ear infection in BOTH ears!

First Audition!

Madi BOOM has been scheduled for her first audition for this Friday. It's a print job for babyGap. What's funny, is every time I go into this store I say "You're going to be a Gap baby one day." Never in my wildest dreams did I think she'd actually get an audition to be cast as one of the kids. Go figure.

So I need to get on top of my to do list asap!! Including sending in her bank info and get photos printed, logo stickers, etc. Thank goodness I have a few days. Now let's hope that the never ending migraine will go away.

Off to Gymboree!!

Entertainment Work Permit

20 days later, it has arrived. Now that I have it in my hot little hand, I can apply for Mad's Coogan account and sign the agent contract. Finally the kid can earn her keep. (Okay, not really).

On a side note, Madi is starting to sign back to us. So exciting!

Holy EVOO Batman, 4 Weeks!

I just called the LA branch of the CA Division of Labor to ask about Madi's work permit. I was redirected to the Van Nuys office, because they're consolidating offices. So I called Van Nuys, and inquired about the permit and was told that it is taking up to 4 weeks nowadays because of the "merger" of the offices. Holy crepe suzette! But they told me that if a job comes up to call back, and they'll expedite the permit.

The Waiting Game

Still have not received the work permit back. Ugh. Apparently (according to Madi BOOM's agent), during the summer they are backed up. I guess all the cute kids are looking for summer work. Should've known. All we have left to do is the Coogan account and sign the contract. Good times. But we can't work without the permit, so it is just a waiting game.

Don't Call Us

No, no one has said that. I just finished registering Madi with LA Casting. I was looking at what's available, and there's an open call for the Church of Scientology. Will we meet Suri Cruise? I still need to work on the To Do list, but I'm waiting for the work permit. Argh.
