Cattle Call

Since Thursday, Madi has been waking up with a fever. 103.9 and 104.5 respectively. We were down to the wire on Friday whether I should take her to the audition. After a long nap, Madi was ready, and mommy was a mess. I threw together her diaper bag, got her dressed, and myself and jumped in the car. It took me an hour just to get to Siren Studios.

We turned onto Sycamore Ave to see a flood of parents and kids heading into the parking lot of the studio. However, I still needed to find parking. I drove up Sycamore. Nothing. I drove down another street. Nothing. I turned back onto Sycamore, and after praying to everyone up there, I found a spot right in front of the studio! Amen! I grabbed Madi, already late for our 12:45 call time, and made a mad dash to the end of the line. All sorts of folks were lined up. Little girls, little boys, toddlers and babies alike. Some were really gorgeous! Some, not so much.

We ended up in line sandwiched by two moms and their daughters. The one in front of me is a "professional" baby. She's done Babystyle, Old Navy and Target from what I gathered from her mother. Her mom was very irritating to say the least. She kept on talking about how "All these people want to see their kids in lights," and how her daughter's picture won't be in this year's Halloween issue for Target, because a more ethinic kid, but less photogenic kid got picked to meet a quota. All I wanted to do was bitch slap her.

We stood in line to check in for an hour. Unbelievable. I called Mad's agent to see if she can gague what's going on. But in reality, no one really knew, and we'll probably never know. But I decided to stick it out, just to make it through this worst case scenario. We finally checked in, and the people at the table were less than friendly. I got a form, and Mad's picture stapled to it, just to find a seat and entertain her for another hour. We recived number 153, and they were only on number 40 when we walked into the room of people hearded into fold out chairs.

First thing I did was head to the back of the room, sat down and whipped out a bewbie. Let's reward this kid for being good for the last hour. She sucked, nibbled, whatever, but she was good for a bit longer. I started chatting with other parents. Some were very sweet and nice. Other's could eat you alive with their looks. They would measure you up and down with a fierce stare, and then they'd do the same to your kid. Geez. And here I just thought I'd be nice and be social. I met people from Riverside, Orange County and all over So Cal. A lot of people were first timers. I met a lady with a 9 pound 8 month old! She was premature by oh, 17 weeks or so!

Madi played with a girl named Lily, and they grooved to Bringing Sexy Back. What a site. I was approached and chatted up by a dad with a 5 o'clock shadow, 3 days old. He was a stage father/photographer and probably also a waiter. It started to get late, and people miffed began leaving. Some proclaimed that it was unethical to keep children this long.

I made my way to where they were calling numbers. As I approached they called numbers 155-170. Um, hello. What happened to 153? So I went in, and got moved from photographer to photographer. The one that finally took us was lovely. Poor Madi was at the end of her rope. But I stood her up on the tape, and she saw the camera...all smiles. I swear the child belongs in front of the camera. She hams it up for anyone that takes her picture. The photographer kept saying how beautiful Madi is. I just said "Thanks."

Once we were done, I thanked everyone, scooped up the Madi BOOM, and headed home. So, that's where we stand today. We'll see if Mad gets a call-back on September 23rd. Depends what they're looking for.

What I learned...bring lots of snacks and drinks, an iPod and tons of toys to entertain Madi! Having a folder and my own pen helps. Also, next time, I'm bringing my camera! Oh what a sight to see!

Oh, Madi is now on penicillin. She's has an ear infection in BOTH ears!

First Audition!

Madi BOOM has been scheduled for her first audition for this Friday. It's a print job for babyGap. What's funny, is every time I go into this store I say "You're going to be a Gap baby one day." Never in my wildest dreams did I think she'd actually get an audition to be cast as one of the kids. Go figure.

So I need to get on top of my to do list asap!! Including sending in her bank info and get photos printed, logo stickers, etc. Thank goodness I have a few days. Now let's hope that the never ending migraine will go away.

Off to Gymboree!!
